Mississippi State Runs Over Rice in Autozone Liberty Bowl

Posted: Updated:

It was not the start the Bulldogs were hoping for, as Charles Ross caps off a nine-play, 45-yard drive for Rice with this one-yard touchdown plunge. 7-0 Owls.

But the Bulldogs would answer with a touchdown of their own on their next possession, and they go right back at it on the following drive. Dak Prescott hooks up with Jameon Lewis for 35 yards, setting up a one-yard touchdown run for Ashton Shumpert. Lewis went for 220 on nine receptions on the day.

There was more where that came from for the Bulldogs. This time Malcolm Johnson gets in on the action, as he takes this bubble screen to the house for 13 yards. MSU would miss the extra point, making it 20-7 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Right before halftime Prescott strikes for a third time. He hits Artimas Samuel in the back of the endzone - touchdown State. MSU enters halftime up 27-7 and Rice would never score again, as the Bulldogs have now won six out of their last seven bowl games. They take this one 44-7.
