Pedestrian Killed In Marion County

MARION COUNTY, Miss. - A Marion County woman is dead after being struck by a car on the night of Dec. 29.

Coroner Norma Williamson says around 6:30 p.m. 31-year-old April Marie was walking northbound on Highway 35 South, just past Highway 98 when she was hit by a Toyota Camry.

Highway Patrol says the driver, 20-year-old Doniqua Strickland tried to avoid the victim,but couldn't.

Strickland's car overturned several times.

She was taken to the hospital and has been released.

MHP said since this was an accident, no charges will be filed against Strickland.
