Business Booms For Plumbers Fixing Busted Pipes During Cold Snap

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The cold weather has been good to one business industry, plumbing.

"It's been hectic since Monday morning," said Joey Pierce, of Pierce Plumbing.

"The last couple of days, probably somewhere around 50 to 60 calls," he said.

Pierce said most calls are for busted or frozen pipes.

"It busted pipes from Downtown all the way out to Canebrake," he said.

"Sometimes they won't leak until they unthaw," he said.

Pierce said there are some preventative measures residents can take.

"Leave your water running," he said. "That does not cost very much and it helps tremendously. Their water bills is going to go up maybe $10, that's a lot cheaper than a plumber."

he says busted pipes can get expensive.

He small leak is easy to fix and you will go to some houses that all of the pipes need replacing.

Pierce said the last time he remember being this busy, was 25 years ago.

"It got severely cold and it stayed hat way for about a week," he said.

Normally when you do a story about a shark you do a stand-up on the beach but not this time.  See these fishermen don't want to tell me where their fishing hole is.  It's not just to protect their spot

A sudden lurch in a creeping landslide in the northwest Wyoming resort town of Jackson split a house in two and forced workers to abandon efforts to stabilize the hillside.
No one can say precisely when the mountainside collapsing into this Wyoming resort town will give way. But it appears increasingly likely that when it does, it's going to take a piece of Jackson with it.
