Donnie Tyndall Inks New Four Year Deal with Southern Miss

Posted: Updated:

On Thursday Southern Miss Director of Athletics Bill McGillis addressed the Jackson Eagle Cub about all things USM sports.

Amongst the topics of conversation, McGillis chiefly spoke on Donnie Tyndall's new contract.

Yesterday McGillis announced Tyndall's renewed commitment to the university in the form of that four-year deal.

Tyndall enjoys a salary increase of $100,000 per year in his new contract, which expires in April 2018.

If he terminates the agreement without cause prior to April 29, 2014, however, he will owe an extra $300,000 to the university.

McGillis says it is that kind of commitment to Southern Miss that makes this deal a whole lot sweeter.

"One of the things that was exciting about this new contract with him, and we're investing in him - obviously, in terms of the length of the contract and the amount of money - but he's also investing in Southern Miss," says McGillis. "He sincerely wants to be at Southern Miss, wants to be in Hattiesburg, wants to coach here because he thinks we have an opportunity to win. The environment is conducive to success, he likes living there and he put his money where his mouth is in this contract."
