A judge has agreed to postpone the trial for Julie Schenecker, the Tampa mother accused of fatally shooting her two children in 2011.
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The New Tampa mother accused of killing her two children was back in court Friday.  Julie Schenecker is set to go to trial April 28.

Her defense attorney, Jennifer Spradley, told Judge Emmett Lamar Battles that doctors have finished extensive mental evaluations.

"We're moving forward. I believe all the doctor evaluations are complete," she said. "I believe that concludes all of the doctor evaluations for now."

Schenecker's attorneys will argue that she was insane when she killed her 13 year-old son Beau and 16 year-old daughter Calyx on January 27, 2011.

"The Defendant did not know what she was doing or the consequences of her actions," stated attorneys in a court document. "The Defendant did not know it was wrong and this was because the Defendant was suffering from a mental infirmity, disease, or defect, to wit: Bipolar Disorder with psychotic features."

The defense said its witnesses include Dr. Eldra Solomon, Ph.D., Dr. Michael Maher, M.D., Dr. Wade Myers, M.D., Daniel Buffington, PharmD, MBA, all of Tampa, and Dr. Harry Krop of Gainesville.

Investigators reported to the media the day after the killings that Schenecker confessed to shooting Beau twice in the side of the head as she drove him home from soccer practice. Then, they said, Schenecker parked the van in the garage of her New Tampa home, went upstairs, and shot Calyx as the teen did her homework. Julie schenecker shot her daughter first in the back and then the front of the head, according to detectives.

Prosecutors confirmed again Friday they will seek the death penalty.

Melanie and Jeffrey Cornwell should have been getting a tax break for years on part of the homestead property in Dunedin they call their "little piece of Heaven." But due to a mistake at the Pinellas Property Appraiser's Office, they won't see any rebates for previous taxes, just a break on future tax bills.
