Posted: Updated:

WAYNESBORO -- A man pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the fatal shooting of his estranged wife.

Anthony Pace, 25, shot his wife Amber Andrews, 22, in February 2013.

She was driving on Highway 84 just outside Waynesboro and wrecked.

Andrews was pronounced dead on the scene.

Pace was arrested shortly afterward at his mother's house in Gilbertown, AL.

Initially, he was charged with first degree murder.

Monday his guilty plea was to second degree, which means it was not planned in advance.

Pace faces 40 years in prison.  His sentencing is scheduled for March.
