Churches Eligible for Tax Exemption

Posted: Updated:

The following is a press release from Southern Pine Electric Power Association:

TAYLORSVILLE -- Mississippi churches are reminded that they may be eligible for a state sales tax exemption on their utility bills, but must apply for it annually.

Churches seeking the exemption from the 7 percent sales tax must complete an affidavit provided by the Mississippi Department of Revenue.  The form can be found at the department's website, www.dor.ms.gov.  Click on the link to the "Forms" page.  The affidavit will be listed under "Sales and Use Tax."

Churches that are members of Southern Pine Electric Power Association can bring the notarized affidavit to one of our offices in Taylorsville, Brandon, Newton, New Hebron or Hattiesburg or mail it.
