HATTIESBURG, Miss. - A Lamar County man is behind bars after police say he was traveling with pot in his car.

Jonathan Whiteside is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana over one pound.

Police say officers were performing a safety check point on McInnis Loop earlier today where they stopped the suspect.

They say he was traveling with a scale in his car, and was trying to weigh marijuana while he was driving.

Authorities say Whiteside tried to hide the scale in his sleeve.

They also worked with the Lamar County Sheriff's Department who served a search warrant at Whiteside's home that's located outside the city limits. Additional charges will come from that.

"They found a large bag of marijuana hidden in the attic where he does live at the residence with his mother," said Lt. Jon Traxler of HPD.
