Forrest Co. AHS Lady Aggies Continue to Surprise

Posted: Updated:

Forrest County Agricultural High School said thank you to its seniors on Tuesday night, and for good reason.

The Lady Aggies are on the verge of cruising into the playoffs, with only two games left in the regular season.

Forrest Co. AHS has not always been known for its soccer, but that all changed in 2013-14.

"At first I was like, 'Oh gosh this is just another year - average - average, yeah, simple, just get it done with, no playoffs or anything like that," says Forrest Co. AHS senior forward Sarah Fortenberry. "I never expected anything like this to come upon us, and it's just great."

After going just 4-4 in district play a year ago, the Lady Aggies are all of a sudden contenders in Class 4A.

The team is 14-1 overall and 5-1 in district play, to the surprise of just about everyone.

"This team just isn't used to this much success so it's kind of like a shocker, but it's definitely amazing," says Forrest Co. AHS defender Jessica Malloy.

What is truly amazing is not the number of games won - it is how the Lady Aggies are winning games that is so impressive.

Forrest Co. AHS has scored four or more goals in every contest except for one, and did not allow a goal until the tenth game of the season.

It may be hard to believe, but the team's secret ingredient is simply a group of names on a roster.

"We've never had this much talent before," says Malloy. "We've always just kind of let her and some of our other skilled players just kind of carry the team, but now we have more people to carry the team."

"We kind of grew as a team, and you can't really explain it other than just when you work hard good things happen," says Forrest Co. AHS head girls soccer coach Tommy Stauter.
