Breweries Push For New Laws

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, Miss. - Mississippi's craft beer makers are brewing up a plan.

They're asking lawmakers to allow brewery owners to sell canned beer out of their brewery storefronts.

one of those breweries is Southern Prohibition of Hattiesburg

The current law says craft brewers can provide samples during tours but they can't sell beer there.

Quinby Chunn, the owner of Southern Prohibition, spoke at the capitol on behalf of the state's eight breweries Thursday.

He said the current structure puts their businesses at a disadvantage.

State Representative Toby Barker says he's thinking about filing a bill that would allow these changes.

He says the growing industry has helped revitalize Downtown Hattiesburg.
