United Blood Services Holds Blood Drive At Columbia Police Station

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, Miss. - United Blood services said they are extremely low on blood, and this week's weather event played a roll in the shortage.

"It's just another way that the police department can give back to the community," said police chief Clint McMurry."they are at a critical level for all blood types.

"They are in extreme need of all types of blood because of the weather, wrecks, just everything and plus people who would normally give couldn't because of all the weather and that through them behind."

"I know that there's a shortage right now, said Johna Necaise, a donor. "I know there are a lot of people who can't or just won't so I try to whenever I can."

Necaise hates needles, but she doesn't let that stop her from giving.

"I've probably given about 14 times," she said. "When I was old enough to give I started at 18. You never know where you may need it or when a family member may need it."
