Acceptable Forms of ID For Mississippi Voting

Posted: Updated:

The following news release is from Mississippi's Secretary of State's Office:

Jackson, Miss.—Some Circuit Clerks around the State have contacted the Secretary of State's office regarding the number of individuals attempting to obtain a Mississippi Voter ID card, when they already have an acceptable form of voter ID.

"Only Mississippi voters who lack an acceptable form of voter ID are eligible for a Mississippi voter ID card," says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.  "The State will not pay for a Mississippi Voter ID card if you already have another form of acceptable photo identification."

A Mississippi Voter ID card is designed to be used for voting purposes only.  It is not meant to replace any other form of identification.

"The Mississippi Voter ID card does not contain your birthdate or other personal information," says Secretary Hosemann.  "Along with security features, only your name, address, county, and photograph appear on the card."

Acceptable forms of photo ID include:

·         A driver's license;

·         A photo ID card issued by a branch, department or entity of the State of Mississippi;

·         A U.S. passport;

·         A government employee ID card;

·         A firearms license;

·         A student photo ID issued by an accredited Mississippi university, college, or community/junior college;

·         A U.S. military ID;

·         A tribal photo ID;

·         Any other photo ID issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the U.S. government or any State government; and,

·         A Mississippi Voter ID card.
