Police Search for Fat Boys Burglar

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG -- Surveillance video taken January 19 at Fat Boys Cigar Store clearly shows a suspect taking items.  Authorities now told us the shop was hit again last Thursday.

"Video showed a black male entering the business selecting some cigarettes and scales and then leaving the business," Lt. Jon Traxler of the Hattiesburg Police Department said.

Then, on Friday, police went back to the scene for a third time.   When they arrived, one man ran toward the woods.  Another ran out of the store in the opposite direction.   Police were unable to catch up with either one.

"That person that came out of the building fits the same description that we have on camera the day before," Traxler said.

But the burglars left a clue behind.   A truck they had used was sitting behind the building. According to investigators, it had been stolen from John's Car Care the night before.

"There is the possibility he may be responsible for other burglaries," Traxler said.

Hattiesburg police want to prevent this man from conducting more thefts in the future, and they're asking for your help.  The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens to early twenties.  He's around 5 foot, 5 inches and goes by the nickname "601."

If you have any information that could lead to an arrest, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 601-582-7867 or Hattiesburg Police at 601-291-9227.
