Judge Declares Mistrial in Blakeney Case

Posted: Updated:

JONES CO -- The murder trial is put on hold for a man accused of killing a toddler.  Justin Blakeney is charged with the 2009 death of his ex-girlfriend's daughter 2-year-old Victoria Viner.

Judge Billy Joe Landrum declared the case a mistrial after two full days of jury selection.

While narrowing down the pool of 250 people, potential jurors gave reasons they could not serve.  At the end of the day, there weren't enough jurors left to fill the seats.  The trial will be rescheduled for a later date, and they'll begin with a larger jury pool according to District Attorney Tony Buckley
