Covington Co. Sheriff's Dept. Arrests Nine in Drug Roundup

Posted: Updated:

COVINGTON COUNTY -- Several Covington County residents are behind bars for drugs. Police executed two search warrants over the weekend.

"We had two main targets that we were after," Under Sheriff Terry Holbrook explained.

Eric Gooden and Tim Barnes were arrested along with seven others.

"Both search warrants were executed in the middle of the night," Holbrook said.  "The subjects were taken into custody without incident."

They're being held at the Covington County Jail on a $150,000 bond.  Police recovered a large amount of cash, stolen weapons and narcotics.

"A lot of the neighbors in both neighborhoods had gave us the alert that there were a lot of strange vehicles with tags from other counties coming in and said that they would stay a few moments then leave," Holbrook said.

This led to the three-month investigation.

"It's our duty and our passion to try to get drugs out of our county," Holbrook said.  "You're never going to eradicate drugs as much as we'd like to, but we want to try to take as big a bite out of them as possible."

He said it is vitally important for citizens to report suspicious activity to police.  He vowed that tips will be kept anonymous and a finger will never be pointed.
