18-Wheeler Catches On Fire On I-59

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - An 18-wheeler fire backed up southbound traffic on interstate 59 for hours Friday.

The call came in around 3 p.m.

The driver said he heard a popping sound and thought it was a flat tire, but as soon as he stepped out of the cab flames began shooting from the engine.

The trailer was empty and no on was injured.

Crews had the truck under control in about 10 minutes then had to focus their attention on a threatening grass fire.
