MEBANE, N.C. -

Police have identified the two deceased victims involved in a high-speed pursuit early Sunday morning in Mebane.

Two people died and one person was injured in the single-car crash.

The deceased have been identified as Michael Earl Walker Jr., 20, of Hillsborough and Jazzman Vontrazc Jacobs, 28, of Mebane.

Walker Jr. was driving the vehicle, according to police. Jacobs was one of two passengers.

The third passenger is listed in stable condition at Duke University Medical Center. The victim is listed as 17 years old, but their name has not been released pending family notification.

The Mebane Police Department said officers attempted to initiate a vehicle stop for suspicion of impaired driving around 1:23 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of U.S. 70 and Buckhorn Road when the suspect driver failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle several times over the course of the pursuit because of the high rate of speed at which the suspect vehicle was traveling.

Police say the vehicle was located near the U.S. 70 and I-85 interchange where it had been involved in a single-car crash. Police say three people appeared to be pinned in the vehicle, and two of them, Walker Jr. and Jacobs, were dead.

The officers involved in the pursuit have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the administrative investigation.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing.
