WIGGINS, Miss. - A Wiggins woman has now filed an appeal after being charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

Robin West was charged back in December after Wiggins Police found a dog severely emaciated on her property.

She was expected to turn herself in to authorities Friday to serve some jail time, but instead...she filed an appeal.

It's now left up to circuit court to decide if she will face any jail time.

Authorities say this case is only a misdemeanor.

Law enforcement officers in Wiggins say they plan on using this case to present to legislators to push for tougher laws when it comes to animal cruelty charges.
