SALISBURY, NC -

An 18-year-old from North Carolina is facing charges accused of posting nude pictures of underage girls on Instagram.

Landis and Granite Quarry Police took Peter Thomas Kiever into custody  on 14 felony sex crime chargess on Thursday night.

Kiever, of Granite Quarry, is the son of Brian Kiever, a candidate for Sheriff in Rowan County.

Peter Kiever has also undergone some EMS training at a nearby community college. He has done some EMS work in Rowan County, according to Facebook.

Kiever also was involved in lifeguard training in Myrtle Beach in the summer of 2011, according to Facebook.

The arrest comes just one month after the SBI launched a state-wide investigation into pictures of naked teens posted on the social networking site.

Kiever is charged with first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and second-degree recording the photo of a minor engaged in sex, according to the Rowan County Detention Center.

Kiever was being held on a $500,000 bond.

The NC SBI is conducting a statewide investigation into the posting of nude photos of minors on social media web. SBI officials said the investigation has spread to at least 9 counties in the state.

Along with Kiever, police say they arrested a minor in the case.
