GARNER, N.C. -

The National Weather Service confirmed Sunday that tornadoes touched down in Garner and Willow Spring during Saturday's storms.

An EF0 tornado with maximum speeds of 85 miles per hour touched down around 8:57 p.m. Saturday in Willow Spring near the intersection of Old Stage Road and Highway 42. A second EF0 tornado with maximum wind speeds of 80 miles per hour also touched down around 9:08 p.m. in Garner.

The Garner tornado traveled about an eighth of a mile and had a maximum path width of 75 yards. A home near the intersection of Trebor Drive and Cross Pointe Lane sustained some damage, including partial roof damage and broken windows, NWS said.

The Willow Spring tornado also traveled about an eighth of a mile and had a maximum path width of 145 yards. NWS said several trees were knocked down and an outbuilding was picked up and moved about 50 yards.

There were no reports of injuries.

Some neighbors in the Willow Spring area said they slept through the storm only to wake up to find the damage that it left behind.

"I had four more trees come down and it kind of messed up my chain link fence back here," said Willow Spring resident Jonathan Barbour. "Either I'll clean it up or get somebody out here, but we have some work to do to get the yard back to the way it was."

WNCN meteorologist Alyssa Corfont said when you hear the warnings, take them seriously.

"It's definitely a serious situation," Corfont said. "Especially last night we had reports of funnel clouds in Fuquay-Varina, so that was before the Willow Springs area, before Garner, so this storm had a history of showing rotation."

If the storm left down trees covering your property, before you pay someone to haul it off, officials say check with your insurance company because the service may be covered.
