Pine Belt Runners Return To Boston

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - One year to the date, Boston a city known for it's patriotism paid homage to victims of last year's Boston Marathon bombing.

Runners from around the world participated in the race, that would later be known for an act of terror...

One of the runners representing the Pine Belt in the race describes what he saw.

"Fire trucks and police cars and just a lot of ambulances and a lot of sirens. We were just kind of looking down. Just the most surreal thing I've ever seen. A celebratory moment where lives were shattered," said John Chandler a Pine Belt Pacer.

Audrey Jackson waited anxiously to find out if the runner's from her group were unharmed, something she says was chaos even miles away in Hattiesburg.

"Worry about and not knowing exactly what was happening. And seeing all the different reports that were coming in leading up to it. Afterwards you know...Chaos," she said.

The emotional wounds of the city are slow to heal, but one year later the strength and resilience of the city of Boston welcomes the marathon for the 118th time.

With less than one week till the start of the race Chandler looks forward to returning to Boston.

"I qualified again and I look forward to running, really in honor of the victims," he said.
