Jones County Homestead Destroyed

Posted: Updated:

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - An old family homestead in Southwest Jones County is destroyed beyond recognition and the owner is picking up the pieces.

Several fire units near Southern Jones County responded to a fully involved structure fire Wednesday afternoon.

The home is owned by a woman named Jessie Hamric.

Hamric says she turned off the heater in the front room and went into the kitchen, she then heard a popping noise and saw flames.

Firefighters say extinguishing the fire took nearly three hours, and additional water support was needed.

The 1933 home built by Hamric's father, was made of heart pine causing it to burn rapidly.

The home is deemed a total loss.
