Mr. Stephen M. Udagawa was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. He graduated from Boston College in 1991 with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree, Cum Laude, in Psychology.

After graduation, he worked for one year at Baker Hall, Lackawanna, New York, counseling and supervising emotionally disturbed teenagers. In 1995, Mr. Udagawa graduated from the University of Miami School of Law.

In November 1995, he joined the State Attorney’s Office for the 18th Judicial Circuit as an Assistant State Attorney, assigned to the Sanford, Florida office, where he handled misdemeanor, domestic violence and mostly third degree felony cases.

In June 1999, he was hired by the State Attorney’s Office for the 13th Judicial Circuit, Tampa, Florida as a Felony Line Attorney.

Within a year, he was promoted to Lead Trial Attorney, then promoted to Deputy Division Chief for Felony Division G and in June 2005, Mr. Udagawa was promoted to his current position as Felony D Division Chief. Mr. Udagawa currently supervises six other attorneys and continues to handle violent felonies, enhanced sentencing cases, drug trafficking cases and homicide cases.
 
Since 2000, Mr. Udagawa has prosecuted and continues to prosecute homicide cases as lead counsel or second chair, co-counsel.
