Police investigating accident involving a train in Kinston

KINSTON, N.C. - Police are investigating a crash involving a vehicle and a car in Kinston.

Police tell 9 On Your Side the accident happened around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, near 405 Walston Avenue.

First responders arriving on the scene had to extract one victim from a pickup truck that went down an enbankment. He was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center.

He's been identified as 16-year-old Riley Sasser. His condition is unknown at the time.

When the accident happened the pickup truck was headed south and the Norfolk Southern train was headed west.   The train was made up of 53 cars and 4 locomotives. 

This incident is still under investigation.
