HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Some say it's a game of parking spot pursuit...
"People that come around five o'clock, you know peak hours it's a little bit harder for them to find a place to park," said downtown resident Whitney Miracle.

For some downtown businesses like Brownstones, it means less patrons.

"We've had several big parties before that were supposed to have X-amount of people and then half the people showed up because they couldn't find anywhere to park," Molly Hatch, the Assistant Manager at Brownstones explained.

If you are traveling downtown, it may appear there's adequate parking, but that's not the case.

The city leases parking spaces to downtown tenants.
"They have two signs for each space, to show people they are reserved for those tenants who are paying for that parking," Bianchi's Pizzeria Co-Owner, Joe White said.

Thus, making those spaces unavailable to other drivers.
"I have a friend that did have an experience with the tow truck that she was very unhappy about," Miracle stated.

According to White, those who can snag a spot, it means dollar signs for other  business owners.

"More traffic downtown, that's good for us, that's good for every merchant in Hattiesburg and that's good for the life and viability for downtown," he said.
