COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. - Jennifer griffin appeared in a Covington County courtroom after being detained as a suspect in the slaying of her husband, Chester Griffin.
"After talking with Mrs. Griffin and her son, they were both brought in for questioning at the end of the interviews Mrs. Griffin was arrested for murder," said
Stann Smith, Covington County Sheriff.

Saturday morning Covington County deputies and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations arrived to Griffin's residence on Broomfield Lane.

According to authorities, Chester was found face down with a gunshot wound and burns to his body.

The suspect had been married to the victim  for years, and Jennifer's family says she stayed even though he was abusive to keep their family together.

"I think my daughter stayed for the sake of those children," stated Lucinda Mitchell, Suspects Mother.

The judge offered his sympathies to Jennifer and her family as she expects another child next month by her now deceased husband.
"She loved her children too much to do that, and it hurts me for her to be going through that by her being pregnant," Mitchell explained. "What can a pregnant woman do," she asked.

Jennifer's bond is set at $1 million for the murder of her husband.
