HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Police finally arrested a man for armed robbery after pursuing him for miles, up and down U.S. Highway 49

Police responded to an armed robbery call at the Texaco gas station on Hardy Street.

At their arrival, the clerk said a black male with a bandana around his face, a hat, and gloves pointed a gun at her and a customer.

The suspect demanded money.

He fled in a silver car, and was later spotted by officers at the kangaroo on U.S. Highway 49 where they tried to make contact.

"The suspect then fled the scene northbound on 49...went all the way into Covington County, where he made a U-turn. They pursued him back...he then lost control at Pepspoint Road on 49 inside the city. He hit a concrete median there...started having problems with his vehicle....he jumped out of the vehicle while it was still  in motion," Lieutenant Jon Traxler of Hattiesburg Police Department said.

28-year-old Germarkers Smith was taken into custody, by Hattiesburg Police Department.

Police later learned Smith is wanted under felon warrants in Clinton, Mississippi.
