The Iva Police Chief is suspended from duty after he was taken into custody by the Anderson County Sheriff's Office Saturday.

According to Lt. Sheila Cole with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, Police Chief Thomas Miller was taken into custody following a domestic dispute call.

The call came in at 2:25 p.m. Saturday and based on the results of the investigation, Chief Miller was taken into custody.

According to a news release from the Sheriff's Office, Miller is accused of striking a family member multiple times with a piece of wood, injuring the victim's arms. Deputies say he also caused physical harm to a woman by grabbing her and throwing her in an aggressive manner.

Miller is charged with Criminal Domestic Violence and Assault and Battery 3rd Degree.

Miller received a PR bond for the Criminal Domestic Violence of $5,242.50 and a PR bond of $1,092.50 for the charge of Assault and Battery 3rd Degree. Officials at the jail tell 7 On Your Side, he has bonded out.

An Iva town council member tells 7 On Your Side Miller has been suspended from his duties while the council looks into the incident.

No word on who will be filling in for Miller in the meantime, but Iva town council member Mary Forrester says the council will meet sometime next week.

A phone call to Miller for comment was not immediately returned.
